The Evaluation Process
-
Initial Contact: The evaluation process is collaborative. It begins with a free 30-minute consultation for parents considering an evaluation. Initial steps include parent/caregiver interviews and completion of parent measures. Information is also gathered from collateral sources such as teachers or therapists as needed.
-
Assessment: Prior to the evaluation, the young person completes standardized self-report measures. On the evaluation day, I spend several hours getting to know the child/adolescent as I administer standardized tests. We talk about their thoughts and feelings regarding school, peers, and family. I create a relaxed, therapeutic space where they can fully engage, put forth their best effort, and feel understood.
-
Timeline: The comprehensive written report is typically completed within 10-15 working days from the test date. Upon request and when appropriate, a redacted “Education Only” report is provided.
-
Follow-Up: Feedback and review of the report with parents, therapists, educational consultants, and others is integral to the process. Information may be shared with the young person in a therapeutic, age-appropriate manner.
-
Afterwards: Following the formal assessment, I am available to provide ongoing support to children/adolescents and their families via Zoom, Facetime, or conference call.
